Exciting news for village halls – first ever national “Village Halls Week!”

The first ever national #VillageHallsWeek will run from 22 – 25 January 2018. This fantastic opportunity to highlight the valuable role that village halls provide to England’s rural communities is being co-ordinated by the national body for rural community councils, ACRE.

It aims to raise awareness of the vital role that village halls play in our rural communities and to celebrate the great work of the volunteers who tirelessly manage and maintain them for the benefit of local people.

As part of the week-long celebration, the Community Council of Staffordshire will be focusing its campaign on the opportunities that come from Staffordshire halls being digitally connected.  So we are asking all village hall committees to send us links to their websites, facebook and Twitter pages.  We will include the links on our website and will follow the halls on our social media feeds, which will help promote their facilities, events and activities.

We are also asking for photographs and short stories illustrating how well used and loved halls are, and if anyone has any success stories about receiving grant aid, local fundraising or volunteers helping to improve theirr hall, we would love to hear from them.  We would especially like to hear about any events or activities taking place between the 22 and 25 of January 2018.  However, we are also happy to receive information about, and photographs of,  regular activities that take place in your local hall, such as keep fit, indoor bowls, language classes, etc.or maybe you would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank someone on your village hall management committee for their dedication and hard work?   Anything you send in by the 22 January, will be included on our website and in our social media posts.

Please send any items that you would like featured in our social media posts to: Cathy Russell.

#VillageHallsWeek was featured on BBC Radio 4's You and Yours on Friday 12 January - have a listen to the link above from around 13 minutes in. Very funny interview with Ian McMillan.

Who is organising the campaign?

ACRE

Our national body, ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England), is running the campaign.  If successful, this could become an annual event and a fantastic opportunity to promote the role of village halls, the volunteers who run them and the national ACRE Network which supports them.

• Follow activities and updates on ACRE’s Twitter @VillageHalls_Wk ; Facebook via @ACREnational; Instagram via @ACRE_national

• ACRE will use #VillageHallsWeek on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for all posts promoting the #Village Halls Week and to highlight events taking place during the week.  ACRE is obviously keen that the week takes on a celebratory tone and is as visual as possible - so lots of photographs and really positive posts would be welcome.

• Finally, the more case studies ACRE has available for distribution during this week the better. They hope that they will be able to get some media support for activities from across the network, especially as January tends to be a quieter month news-wise.
